Oxford’s Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November 2026, and the city’s service is held at the war memorial in St Giles’. The council has not yet published this year’s running order. Last year the parade assembled in Magdalen Street at 10am, the service began at 10.45am and the two-minute silence was at 11am, with St Giles’ closed to traffic from midnight to 2pm. Armistice Day falls on Wednesday 11 November; last year the Lord Mayor led a short ceremony at the Town Hall.

What happened last year, and what to expect

The 2026 details are not out yet. Oxford City Council’s announcement for 2025 was published on 6 November, three days before the service, so expect this year’s in the first week of November. The parade in 2025 included more than 15 groups, among them the Salvation Army Band, RAF Cadets, the Army Cadet Force, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, St John Ambulance and Girlguiding Oxford. The event is free and there is no booking.

Road closures and parking

On the day last year St Giles’ was closed completely from 12.01am until 2pm, and there were restrictions on sections of Banbury Road, Beaumont Street, Keble Road and Magdalen Street East and West. Parking in those streets was suspended for the event. Armistice Day at the Town Hall

In 2025 the Lord Mayor led a ceremony on the landing at the top of the stairs in Oxford Town Hall on 11 November, starting at 10.55am, with a short prayer from the City Rector and a two-minute silence at 11am. The public was invited. This year 11 November falls on a Wednesday.
